as far as creativity goes, i think it's safe to say that whether we fall or jump, we need to be out on that limb. sometimes dangling, sometimes draping our bodies over relaxing with a wonderful cup of _______ in hand.

or perhaps at the top of a waterfall, which is also the base of another waterfall. always on your toes, always adapting, and taking in everything around you - the beauty of it all and the potential of tragedy.

but that's where we grow the most, right?

time to figure out where my limb is.

as we grow older we become more aware of ourselves. whether it is at the forefront of our minds or not, every day we become more of who we are. which in turn makes us ask questions. where am i going? what am i doing right now? am i valued? do i offer value? what is my value? where do i belong? who am i.

as we grow and learn and ask we come to discover (often told by someone older and wiser) that we will be asking these questions our entire lives. everyday it is a challenge to first of all, be who you are, secondly, keep in mind what you want to be, and finally tie those together by finding balance in the waves that life brings us.

creativity comes in waves: the most important thing i've been told in the last 3, 4, maybe 5 months.

so. ask the questions. over and over and over again. find the balance. and do what you're supposed to do - what you, as a loving, living, soul are created to BE.

to be free

for me, there is nothing better than making art and listening to good music.

aside from that, the greatest thing are friends who let me be free; support me in my ways and encourage me to create. to be. they are family.

art & music connect my soul to the outside overarching omnipotent thing, i call God, you call ________. but people help me relate to society and culture, and if they're good people, they encourage me (and hopefully i, them) to do the things that connect me to myself & the larger world/universe/unknown.

find those people for you.
so. thank you.

here is the latest musical discovery: a good person, a new friend, and incredible musician:

act i scene iv

Romeo: Is love a tender thing? it is too rough,

Too rude, too boisterous, and it pricks like thorn.

Mercutio: If love be rough with you, be rough with love;

Prick love for pricking, and you beat love down.

Give me a case to put my visage in:

A visor for a visor! what care I

What curious eye doth quote deformities?

Here are the beetle brows shall blush for me.

insecure qualities

people watching is one of the greatest forms of inspiration.

take a minute and watch adults interact with children.

every fear and insecurity is taken away. poof. gone. vacant. for those brief moments we are able to be something that almost no adult can allow us to be. while age and experience grow us and push us to a better self, being surrounded by children allows a free zone. there is a wild imagination inside every child which has not yet been trained and skewed by society. yes, experience allows us to create, imagine, and make incredible art. but there is something about life through a child's eyes. they hear sounds and see colors that we no longer interact with. their innocence and imagination inspire rawness and truth. an honesty that is lost somewhere between 10 and 15.

go ahead. mess up. imagine. stumble across your words. create. be you. do the things that you hold back when the average adult is just around the corner.

some of my most insecure qualities (yes. qualities.) are free and illuminated when i am near children. they won't laugh. i know that. better yet, they'll support my thoughts and feelings.

so what if we were all more like children?

maybe we would see a raw, truthful, and more imaginative world.

more art on its way. slowly, i know. but i promise. just keep hoping for that perfect space to create.

i miss this space.

this month is nuts. a hard transitional period and i am dying to get back into making art again. Soon and very soon (whoever you are that's reading), i am going to have a home, and a space to make art and show you, and the entire world.

pray if you pray, hope if you hope, think, whatever you do, please do it... that i find the right house, at the right price, in the right place. it's hard to have hope sometimes.

for now, here is a photo that reminds me of my childhood.
Thanks to The Sartorialist for being amazing.
(i'm pretty sure her name is kay, which is appropriate...)

enjoy this day. support nashville.
love & kisses & lots of high fives
