let me see your hands

Here is what I have been up. Unfortunately during the month of September I had to take a hiatus from my artwork due to an overload of work. Alas! I have FINALLY had the time to put some of my own work into the grand system of computers & the world wide web.

what you all have been waiting for.

peace & power [saint & struggle]
complex & simple
twisted balance
for limbs
dinner forks & dinner lives
piety

self v surrounding

"I have been a witness, and these pictures are

my testimony. The events I have recorded should

not be forgotten and must not be repeated."

-James Nachtwey-

as artists i think it is so easy to distance ourselves from our world, our society. easily are we whisked away into our own imaginations where we are focused on self, or the search for self. the latter more preferable than the former. however, its simple to cast away the reality of our world.
unfortunately a large portion of creative, art-making minds have a more difficult time processing and understanding politics and so often we don't venture near them... unfortunately that leaves us ignorant about the world and when something monumental happens we are caught off guard and keep wondering "how'd this happen? where'd it even come from?"  if only I had been more in tune all along.
all this to say. i want to be more in tune with the news. i think you should be too. even if we don't necessarily stand firmly in one political view opposed to another, at least maybe i'll know the current events. so i'm tryin.

here are some great artist's who were very much influenced by the occurrences of the world.

Eddie Adams:  (i was able to see the original of this photo at the Frist this past spring. it was awe inspiring. so incredible to see, him being one of my very favorite artists)
Steve McCurry:
Benjamin Krain:
James Nachtwey:

still in search of artists, other than photography, that do work that is connected to the happenings of the world. if you have a heads up, let me know.

chuck & dean

lets chat.
these are two of the exhibits that are at the Frist this summer. wonderful.

Chuck Close - golly.  what a detailed, precise, ingenious, and incredibly talented modern artist. seriously. if only i had the money i'd be working as large scale as him... so i guess that is why he's making large scale at the age he is.  Let's be honest, he was probably scraping by and making little baby pieces like you and i when he was our age.

Dean Byington. If you ever get the chance to see his work in real life, you'll be blown away - so much detail - so much imagination - so many stories and so much magic in it.
if you don't know about them, you've got so much to explore. both are reviving. both are inspiring. i haven't been breathless or speechless over art in awhile... so these guys really brought life back into it.

beautiful beautiful.  so many more things to learn from and get ideas from.
love it. hasta luego.

audrey kawasaki

Audrey Kawasaki has a great way of portraying the female body and emotion. her work is beautiful. a lot of delicate, intricate, yet hard and harsh work. its wonderful. here are some favorites.

new friends & new ideas

located in an old gas station on 12th with a beautiful lab to greet you at the door.  new friends. they have great jeans and they will custom make jeans as well.  great people, great product. scratch that - replace the word great with incredible.  they also go digging and have some amazing finds for sale - particularly a dead stock military boxer that happens to look fantastic as a pair of high waisted shorts (or whatever you will) with some pretty bad ass pockets.  check them out. i support them. they need to be known of.

lets just say i've been working on my studies of the human body.  i know, i know. no new art as of recent  - my computer crashed and i lost everything i was going to put up, so bare with me. however, i've been doing some drawings and i'll give you a taste by way of reference images.

i'll get some of the images of the pieces as soon as i re-download photoshop and illustrator, etc.

love it.
